What to see and do at Xerocon Melbourne 2017

Xerocon Melbourne

Whether this is your first Xerocon Melbourne or you’re a seasoned veteran, you’re in for a great time. After reaching their milestone one million customers worldwide, Xero are pulling out all the stops to show their accountants a good time and help them grow their businesses. If this sounds like you, then you’ve got to come along to Xerocon Melbourne on 13–14 September, at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC).

Here’s our guide of all the cool things you have to look forward to at Xerocon 2017.

1. Don’t miss the keynotes

Melbourne, you are in for a treat. Magda Szubanski has been making us laugh for decades as Sharon from Kath and Kim. She’s also appeared in the award-winning film Babe and its sequel, worked alongside Robin Williams in Happy Feet, and even appeared in a national tour of Grease: The Arena Spectacular. She’s recently published her autobiography, and her keynote at 9:10AM on Day 2 promises to be both inspiring and entertaining.

Of course, Xero’s own Rod Drury will be speaking as well, at 2:30PM on day 2. You should also check out Tim Leberecht – author of The Business Romantic: Give Everything, Quantify Nothing, and Create Something Greater Than Yourself – at 9:45AM on Day 1.

2. Best place for lunch: Boatbuilder’s Yard

Near the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, you’ll find a huge range of excellent cafes, pubs and restaurants along the South Wharf Promenade. One of the best is The Boatbuilder’s Yard, where you can enjoy great food and a beer or wine in a casual, friendly atmosphere overlooking the water. With capacity for over 1000 diners, you’ll be sure to find a table. The menu includes hearty burgers and fresh seafood, and I’d definitely recommend the cauliflower popcorn.

3. Couldn’t get a room at the hotel? Try the Adelphi

If you’re too late for accommodation at the venue, or just want to stay somewhere a little different, then check out the Adelphi Hotel. This boutique space has been completely refurbished in a funky penthouse style, and it even has a rooftop pool that’s famous among Melbournites as being a party spot in the nineties when it was the only one in the city.

But the real secret sauce of the Adelphi is its Om Nom Dessert Restaurant & Bar, where head chef Christy Tania will delight you with a huge range of amazing and intricate sweet treats. If you need to relax and enjoy a treat after a day at Xerocon, then the Adelphi is the place for you.

4. Get inspired at the breakouts

Xero have put together some awesome breakout sessions this year – so don’t miss your chance to learn how to grow your practice and improve processes. It’s a good idea to choose your breakout sessions in advance, so you make sure you hit the ones that will be most useful to you.

We’ll definitely be attending the breakouts of ethics advocate Catherine Bell, data scientist Tiberio Caetano from Ambiata, and Earth AI’s CEO, Roman Teslyuk.

5. Best local cocktail: Eau de Vie

Eau de Vie is my favourite place to drink in Melbourne. Located down an alleyway, behind a secret door, this jazzy speakeasy has an impressive range of top-shelf liquor and some of the craziest cocktails around. Dry ice, burning one-dollar bills, and drinks served in bull’s horns are just a sampling of the surprises you could expect while enjoying a drink in their whisky library (hidden behind a secret bookshelf).

6. Visit the Tradify stand

Rob and Glen are going to be hanging out in the main hall with some free swag and lots of dazzling smiles. Come by and snap a picture with us, and get all the info you need on how Tradify can help your tradie clients effectively manage their paperwork.

Xerocon Melbourne promises to be an awesome weekend for accountants and bookkeepers. What are you waiting for? Tickets are running out for the Xerocon nearest you. Book yours now, and we’ll see you there!
