Work at Tradify

UX Designer

Tradify is a real Kiwi technology success story – more than 7,000 tradies around the world depend on us to help them succeed in their business and life goals. We are at an exciting stage of company growth where we are searching for top talent who are going to get a buzz from seeing the tangible impact of their work in the progression and evolution of Tradify. Customer success is at the heart of what we do, and we’re doing a pretty great job so far - Tradies have rated Tradify as one of the top small business apps in Xero’s marketplace, and we’re beating our own growth records every month. We work hard but take the time to celebrate wins, we’re willing to go the distance for a product we believe in and we know what it takes to succeed as a high-growth business. This means a good balance between flexibility and a commitment to getting the job done when something urgent pops up. We’re proud to be working hard on great and innovative ways to help tradies succeed each and every day, and you will need to be too.

We need a new super-smart, super-passionate and super-on-to-it designer to lead our User Experience practice. Someone who wants to focus on making a massive difference in the business and daily lives of an awesome and massively underserved user base. Basically this means going out and really understanding what’s going on in Tradies lives, and bringing this information back to the business to set the agenda for how we go about making a difference. Oh and you also get to define, design and deliver the solutions too.

Do you want to be participating in one of the fastest-growing technology companies in Australasia? Do you want a job that goes deeper than doing just another screen comp or user-flow? Not only will you be owning the user experience across web and mobile touchpoints, you’ll also be co-designing and collaborating with a team of friendly people focussed on doing something world-class. You’ll be living and breathing Tradify’s goals and culture on daily basis.

If you thrive on design thinking, a relentless pursuit on creating awesome user experiences, and ultimately helping people succeed, you’re gonna fit right in. In a typical day, you might do some of the following:

  • Kick off the morning with coffee and a catch-up with a diverse range of team members.
  • Meet with the engineering team to share prototypes for a new mobile feature you are working on.
  • Attend a technical session to learn more about how GPS tracking works in the mobile app.
  • Have a chat with a customer about how they carry out quoting in their business.
  • Lead a discussion about a customer problem and the design process we will use to uncover a solution.
  • QA engineering work and sit with a developer to finely tune the end result to ensure the user experience is as awesome as you had imagined.
  • Go deep on a new solution, researching requirements, co-designing with tradies and defining technical specs to supply to engineers.
  • Craft a beautiful, remarkable design for our marketing website that is worthy of entering in the Best Awards or at least proudly posting to your Dribbble.
  • Help build an event stand including digital display and physical signage.

You’re going to love this job if you:

  • Have a bachelor's degree plus five years experience in interaction design or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Extensive experience of a leading edge digital or UX design company and practices.
  • A great understanding the concepts of interaction design, and user experience.
  • Have a foundation of design fundamentals such as typography, layout, colour theory, and branding.
  • Have a technical understanding of HTML & CSS, responsive layouts and mobile app design.
  • Are focussed on the quality of the user experience as much as the aesthetics of the user interface.
  • Enjoy participating in a high performance team-oriented environment to deliver sophisticated digital solutions.
  • Enjoy integrating with software components to build a fully functional software eco-system.
  • Can serve as a subject matter expert for user-centered design practices.
  • Are highly organised with great attention to detail.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Believe that tradies do important work and that supporting them to success is an awesome job.
  • Want to do work that improves other people’s lives, but also believe it should be fun.

We’re a team of 20 friendly & diverse people who work and play hard, but we’re growing rapidly, and this role is going to grow too. You’ll report directly to the Head Of Customer Experience, but beyond that you’ll be working across a flat team where everyone shares in the same purpose and pitches in as needed.

You’ll have the unique opportunity to play a critical role in a Kiwi success story, and build on your skills and talents as we grow. For the right candidate, we offer competitive remuneration, a great, spacious office in the heart of Mt. Eden, several dedicated parking spots, a souped-up Mac, and a great working-environment with monthly team lunches and Friday-night drinks, and plenty of interesting things in-between.
